Rules and policies

Rules and policies are in place to make sure your child remains safe and well at school.

Visit the NSW Department of Education’s policy library for all current operational policies.

Our school uses the department's School Community Charter to ensure all of our communication is collaborative and respectful.

Attendance and absences

Students must attend school regularly so they can achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options.

In NSW, all children from the age of 6 are legally required to attend school or be registered for home schooling through the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). All students must complete Year 10, or its equivalent.

Young people below the age of 17 who have completed Year 10 must be:

  • in school or registered for home schooling
  • in approved education or training, such as a traineeship, apprenticeship or TAFE
  • in full-time paid employment (average 25 hours a week)
  • in a combination of work, education and/or training (average of 25 hours a week combined).

Students 17 years and over who are enrolled in school must attend school regularly to meet HSC course requirements.

As a parent or carer, you are responsible for ensuring your child attends school every day when they are of compulsory school age. You must explain all absences to the school within 7 days.

School frameworks (school rules)

As well as following the department’s operational policies, we have developed frameworks for our students in line with our school’s values and commitments.

Digital Devices (Mobile Phone) School Procedures

Digital Devices (Mobile Phone) School Procedures

Boggabilla Central School is an Education for Life environment that continually seeks to enhance our students knowledge and learning.  The very core of this is building positive relationships between all stakeholders in the school and engaging students in their learning. We believe it is important to foster the development of social and emotional intelligence amoungst our students. The continuous use of mobile devices has shown to prevent or impede positive connections and personal growth, while decreasing the level of student engagement during lesson and break times.

Boggabilla Central School has consulted with the staff and students and the community with a meeting  taking place  with community members on Tuesday 22nd November 2022 in the school Library where  a consensus was found that the students should not have their phone or their friends phone or other family members phone at school. On the 12th of December 2022 the Digital Devices (Mobile Phone) School Procedures was discussed with the School Reference Group (SRG) and support was given for implementation.

As of Day One, Term One 2023, students will NOT be allowed to bring their phone or their friends phone or other family members phone to school. If a parent or guardian needs to contact a student, they are able to contact the school office on 07 4676 2104 and a message will be forward to the student directly. If required the student will be provided the opportunity to ring their parent or carer from the school.

School Expectations:

  • Students will NOT bring their phone or their friends phone or other family members phone to school.
  • If a student brings their phone or their friends phone or other family members phone to school, it will be confiscated and held in a secure location on charge until the end of the school day.
  • If the student continues to bring their phone or their friends phone or other family members phone to school, the phone will be confiscated and locked in secure location on charge until a suitable time is arranged for a parent or guardian to collect the phone from the school.
  • If a student is seen by a staff member of Boggabilla Central School during the school day with a mobile phone, the phone will be confiscated and locked in a secure location on charge until a suitable time is arranged for a parent or guardian to collect the phone from the school.
  • School hours are between 8.30am to 3.05pm.

We look forward to working with the community to endeavour to provide the best educational outcomes for our students now and into the future.
